GL-5 Gear Oil

GL-5 gear oil is built for hypoid differentials and heavy-duty manual gearboxes that see higher shock-loading than a typical passenger-car synchro box; its extreme-pressure additive package is roughly double the strength of GL-4. This collection includes MANNOL 8102 MAX POWER 4x4 (75W-140, GL-5 with limited-slip additive for locking/LSD differentials) and the dual-rated MANNOL 8109 (75W-80, GL-4/GL-5 LS) for gearboxes engineered to tolerate either specification. The 75W-140 grade suits 4x4s, pickups and SUVs running hot, heavily loaded rear axles, while the LS (limited-slip) additive prevents chatter in clutch-type differentials. Never substitute GL-5 into a gearbox specified for GL-4 only; check your owner's manual first.
