CVT Transmission Fluid

CVT (continuously variable transmission) fluid has to withstand the unique metal-belt/pulley or chain-drive friction demands of a CVT, which is fundamentally different from a stepped automatic gearbox. A mismatch here is one of the more expensive fluid errors, since CVT belt slip from the wrong fluid can shorten the life of an already wear-sensitive component. MANNOL 8216 is a fully synthetic CVT fluid built to the JWS 3320 specification, one of the more widely referenced CVT standards across several manufacturers' CVT units. Never substitute regular ATF for CVT fluid, even temporarily; the friction characteristics are engineered for entirely different hardware. Check your CVT's specific approval list before ordering, as CVT fluid specs vary more between manufacturers than most other transmission fluid categories.
